I have chosen chapter twenty, “A Portrait of Caroline Herschel” from Baigrie for the Primary Document Assignment. The text is about Caroline Herschel, who was a scientist and astronomer and also received the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (Baigrie, 184). It was difficult for women in the 19th century to receive recognition for their contribution, especially in the field of science. Caroline belonged to a musical family but she and her brother made exceptions, as they established their identity in the field of science. She was working with her brother and assisting him, later after his death, she made a notable contribution, and became a pioneer in the field of science.
